Opal Ensten (9th)

Opal recommends Scream. Even if you aren’t a fan of the horror genre, Opal recommends the scream franchise. When asked why she loves the movies, she replied that she loves guessing who the murder is, “it’s fun to guess the twists even if they’re predictable”. The scream franchise is a classical horror franchise and has been raved about for years.

Juniper Krautkramer (9th)

Juniper recommends The Grand Budapest Hotel. The Grand Budapest Hotel is an adventure film which came out in 2014, “The way they filmed the movie was very interesting, I enjoy Wes Anderson’s film style”, Juniper responded when asked why she enjoys it. She explained how she loved all of the different adventures they went on. The movie centers around a concierge and his protege after being accused of a murder and stealing a priceless painting.

Lexi Hasenour (9th)

Lexis favorite movie is 10 Things I Hate About You. She recommends it to be your next rom-com if you like late 90’s and early 2000’s movies, “The early 2000’s movies are so much more authentic and just the best”. 10 Things I Hate About You is about two teenagers who start dating due to a bet, eventually they catch real feelings. The plot, actors, and soundtrack combine to make it the perfect 2000’s movie.

Personal Favorites

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Written and directed by Stephen Chobosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower is the perfect coming of age movie. The main character, Charlie, struggles through his first year of high school dealing with mental health issues and problems within his friend group. Everybody inside his friend group deals with different issues which makes the movie relatable for multiple audiences. The movie has one of my favorite sound tracks, consisting of The Smiths, David Bowie and other great artists.

Juno

Starring Elliot Paige as Juno and Micheal Cera as Bleeker, Juno may be my favorite movie of all time. The movie follows Juno while she navigates teenage pregnancy and giving her baby up for adoption. Although the topics of the movie are somewhat sensitive, the movie is all together hilarious. The music and vibrant colors in the film reflect Juno’s personality and mindset as the movie goes on.

La La Land

The Musical La La Land is an emotional whirlwind of a movie. Aspiring actress, named Mia, and pianist, Sebastian keep running into each other and eventually begin dating. Although they both started as struggling artists, Mia and Sebastian eventually have to choose between their relationship and continuing their career. The music in the movie is mostly upbeat and consists primarily of Jazz due to Sebastian’s love for it.
