My first week of school: what I expected vs. what happened

For me, what I expected of the first week of school was kind of like a tour. I thought I would have a student who knew where they were going to guide me. I was super nervous and scared, and I messed up. After the first period, I almost went to my B1 class instead of my A2 class, so I was late to my second class. However, for the rest of the week, it went pretty well and smoothly. I ended up changing classes in the second week because dance wasn’t for me, but I switched into 2-D Art and liked it. Then, my English teacher, Miss Gillis, told me about Yearbook. I wanted to join but didn’t know how, so Miss Gillis helped me. One thing to remember about your first day is that you are going to get help from both teachers and students.

Analisa Jones, a 10th grader, said, “I would have thought the first week of school would be very boring and a lot of work. The first week, there was already drama, but classes that I had with my friends were fun.”

Chloe Suttice, an 11th grader, said, “My expectations for junior year were a stress-free, quiet, low-key year. The reality of it was a year full of stress and work-heavy days; however, it has taught me to have better time management and other responsibilities.”

Georgia Lichti, an 12th grader said “I expected to be lost in the school and be really out of place. I really wasn’t that lost and actually thought that I fit in pretty well. It was easy for me to make friends and get along with my teachers.

What you expect might be different than you think. Don’t base your expectations on movies, because it definitely isn’t the same. Just be prepared for anything and everything when it comes to the first week of school.

Hello, my name is Akira. I am a freshman, and this is my first semester in the yearbook and it has been awesome! I joined the yearbook to meet new people and try new things. My catalog sections are portraits and clubs. I’ve only been doing it for one semester, but I hope to return and do the same thing next year. What I do best is interviewing people and taking pictures. I think so because I enjoy getting to know people and learning about them, and I’ve always loved taking photos. What I enjoy most about being at Herron are the extracurricular activities we can do both in and out of school. One of my interests is photography class. I also enjoy learning new math and being part of the home economics club. Some of my hobbies are baking and cooking, which I really love. I also want to get into ceramics because I love pottery. Watching movies, and I enjoy being able to help others. I don’t really have a favorite teacher yet since it’s my first year, but if I had to choose, it would probably be Miss Gillis because she is super helpful her classes are super relaxed so she would have to be my favorite.
