Where do you live?
She lives about two miles away from Herron and she and her family are actually really close to the Children’s Museum. They live in a historic house that was built in 1900.
What do you like to do for fun?
She really enjoys gardening. She has a pretty big garden in her back yard and she grows all kinds of vegetables. She also likes to sew and do crochet. When she has time in the summer, She likes to read.
What’s your faverite thing about being a teacher?
If she has to pick one thing, it would be watching her students succeed when they learn how to do new things.
What made you come to Herron?
She and her family moved to Indianapolis three years ago when her partner decided to get his doctorate at IU Indy. She chose Herron because of their foundational philosophy about education. She also really liked that the administration really values diversity and inclusion of makes all students feel welcome.
Where did you work?
Before teaching at Herron, she taught 12th grade seniors at a school in Texas called Cedar Ridge high school. It was VERY big school with about 5,000 students.
What made you a teacher?
Probably her mom and dad. Her mom was a teacher and her dad was a coach – so she got to see how they made a difference to their students and she wanted to do the same.
How’s your family doing?
Most of her family is in Texas – doing very well. Her son is an architect and will probably be engaged soon. Her daughter also lives in Texas and is in her 2nd year in College.
What other jobs did you do before becoming a teacher?
Before she was a teacher, she worked at a law firm as the marketing manager and helped to run a non- profit called ” special needs forum” – an organization that helped families plan for the future for families with special needs children… like how to save money, healthcare, college, jobs, and other important life choices.
Do you have any pets and what are their names?
she does have a pet. She and her family has a dog named millie. She is seven years old and very smart. She can do all kinds of tricks like shake and give high fives. She can play dead and roll over and turn around. She is a springer spaniel.
