Everyday Essentials – Juan Escamilla-Flores

Everybody has their essentials, something they carry with them everyday. From their phone, to their headphones, to even their favorite book. Everyone has an item they cannot go without. So I decided to interview a student about items they always carry with them.

What is an item you use at school everyday that you can’t go without?

“Unpopular option, transparent sticky notes” (Juan Escamilla-Flores, 9, Freshman Class President).

Why do you see it as a must have?

“They are so very important when I am in any class because I always like to use pens. And if I mess up at all, I like to go over them with a transparent sticky note and then just correct over it, because sometimes I will completely ruin a math equation or completely scramble an English paragraph and have no way to correct it because I’m using pen.
And instead of getting an entire new paper, I can use a transparent sticky note to just go over it and fix it. And it’s been really helpful ever since I got it. So I do definitely recommend it” (Juan Escamilla-Flores, 9, Freshman Class President).

Do you have any other essentials?

“Well, obviously I have to bring my phone and my binders and all that. But another weird essential item that I have is flash cards in any class. I can have a test, a pop quiz coming up that I did not study for, and I can just write it down in some flashcards and they quickly get them out and practice them without having to write them down individually or look over notes. It helps me have a way to review without needing any extra help using technology or any notes that I might not have” (Juan Escamilla-Flores, 9, Freshman Class President).

What do you think would happen if you didn’t have these essentials?

“Fail a lot more tests… than I already do” (Juan Escamilla-Flores, 9, Freshman Class President).

However, one person shouldn’t speak for everyone. I plan to interview more students in the near future. In the meantime, what do you see as your essential item?

My name is Elias Borders, and I am a Freshman and part of making the Herron Yearbook. Since I am a Freshman, this is my first year as a part of the yearbook/journalism class. However, I don’t necessarily plan for it to be my last. While right now I’m posting blogs, I mainly enjoy interviewing people and taking photos. So far I enjoy Herron. I think there are many opportunities to take and people to meet. Though I’m not part of any clubs, outside of school I currently do photography and am beginning to make music. In terms of favorite classes I’d have to say my favorite was Intro to 2-D Art which I had during first semester. However, while most students have a favorite teacher, I don’t necessarily have one. However if I had to chosen I would have to say Ms. Cole. However I don’t like or plan to talk about myself. What I plan to talk about is the average student. I want to write about topics that students or anyone in general will enjoy. Or I can inform on things that people should know about but don’t. I plan to interview students about their thoughts and views on either school or current world topics. I don’t write for Herron, I write for you.
