Beyond the Bell: Clubs You Didn’t Know Existed at Our School

Most students know about the common school clubs, like sports teams or the debate club, but there are a few hidden gems that many may not be aware of. At our school, there are some unique and lesser-known clubs that offer great opportunities to try new things outside of class.

One of the most interesting clubs is the Dungeons & Dragons Club, where students get together to play the popular role-playing game. The club, which started a few years ago, allows members to create characters and go on adventures, solving puzzles and defeating monsters as a team. It’s not just about dice and dragons; the game encourages creativity, teamwork, and strategic thinking. Whether you’re a seasoned player or a complete beginner, the club welcomes anyone who wants to join in on the fun. If you’ve ever been curious about D&D, it’s a great opportunity to dive in and meet others who share the same interest.

Another cool club is the Gardening Club, which has become more popular as students get more interested in sustainability. The Gardening Club gives students a chance to plant flowers and vegetables while learning about organic gardening. The club also helps maintain the school’s garden, creating a peaceful green space where students can relax and connect with nature. As part of their activities, members discuss eco-friendly gardening practices, composting, and the importance of supporting local ecosystems. If you care about the environment or have a green thumb, this is the perfect place to get involved.

Lastly, there’s the Gamers Club, where students can come together to enjoy video games, board games, and more. Whether it’s a casual gaming session or a competitive tournament, the club offers a chance to relax, socialize, and discover new games. It’s a great way for students to bond over shared interests, meet people outside their usual circles, and enjoy some friendly competition. “We have an average of about 15 kids who come to the club each week, and while we started with games like Smash Bros and Jackbox, we’ve recently incorporated more board games and even trading card games,” says Mr. Leibowitz, one of the teachers involved. “The club is all about having fun and students are welcome to drop by anytime—it’s a great way to unwind and connect with friends.” The Gamers Club meets every Thursday afternoon and is led by three dedicated teachers who help guide the activities.

These clubs, along with many others, give students a chance to explore new interests, develop skills, and make lasting friendships. Whether you’re into gaming, gardening, or fantasy adventures, there’s a club for you. So, why not join one? You might discover something you really enjoy! Plus, you’ll be able to bring new ideas and fresh perspectives back into your school life, making it even more exciting and fulfilling. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to explore your passions beyond the classroom!
