Culture Fest: A Celebration of Culture at Herron

Last Friday, April 4th, Herron’s Herron’s National Honor Society hosted Culture Fest 2025 – a celebration of the diversity that makes Herron High School so special. The event was held after school in the gallery where students were excited to learn about the many different cultures and traditions from their friends. Students were greeted with a wide variety of activities hosted by a wide variety of student clubs, including LatinX, BCU (Black Cultural Union), and other student-led organizations. Each booth offered something unique—handmade decorations, traditional games, trivia, face painting, bowling, and opportunities to learn about the customs and histories of different cultures.

Highlights of the event included student performances and a fashion show where students modeled stunning cultural attire from a variety of countries. In between performances, students played games from around the world, laughing and learning along the way. The audience cheered as each outfit told a story of heritage and pride. Hungry students had no shortage of treats to sample. Tables overflowed with snacks and bites from around the world.

“I didn’t expect to have this much fun and learn so much,” said one freshman. “It made me realize just how many different backgrounds we all come from—and how cool that is.”

At a time in our nation’s history, when things like diversity and inclusion are being threatened, Culture Fest was a great reminder of the power of community and the beauty of diversity. Judging by the number of students who showed up, the laughter and big smiles, and empty snack trays, it’s safe to say the event was a huge success. National Honor Society truly brought the world to Herron, and students can’t wait to do it again next year.

🐞☀️🎧🎀💐📸💗 Junior Athletics Section Head Sports Photographer Design and Template creator 2nd year on Yearbook Im involved in Mock Trial and debate teams in relation to herron. I also get involved in journalism and writing camps over breaks and summers. I hope to go to IU Bloomington on a Journalism track. I’ve been on the yearbook staff for only 2 years but have dedicated a large amount of my time outside of school and during free time in school to help with yearbook. I’ve made entire pages and templates this year and last year and have learning more about editing and photo taking. Outside of Yearbook and Herron I like to do a lot of creative activities. My interests vary from nail art to crocheting and many in between. I enjoy reading and drawing during the summer and going on vacations with family. This summer I plan to take Journalism courses at IU Bloomington for 2 weeks to improve my skills for senior year. The camp will be over-night and we will be staying in actual dorms. Not only am I getting crucial photography and journalism information, but also an early college experience at a university I strongly plan on going to. I can’t wait to get information from real journalism experts and use it to better our school’s yearbook and future book productions.
