What it’s like to be a freshman coming from middle school and what advice would you have for new Freshmans.

For me being a freshman coming from middle school it’s been a good change. I come from Butler Lab 55. What I liked about it was it was very chill and we were always outside. What I didn’t like about it was that they did a very good job helping us when we actually needed it. There was a bigger environment, a lot more independence, and a bigger responsibility. A lot more stepping up for work and trying to figure out my life and what I want to be when I grow up. And having to really focus on my grades because they started to really matter. Some classes that are hard for me are Latin and English to a certain extent. A class that I’m really good at is algebra. Also starting to plan my future but not too much. Some advice I have is to not be scared to ask for help and ask about what classes might be good for you. Managing your time is very important because when it comes to studying it is very crucial for you to have so you can get whatever you need to do and get it done without procrastinating.

I interviewed Evie Speicher, a fellow ninth grader. Her mom is a teacher here at Herron, she runs track which takes up a lot of time. And she said “It feels like a big change at the beginning of the year but I had a great time meeting new people and making new friends. The advice I would give would be to do a sport and to not be scared to talk to new people.”

One more thing you need is to not overwork yourself and take your time with every quiz and test that you take (especially during exams). Take breaks and breathe.
