Tania Marquez is a Herron senior who is a founder of the Architecture club and is an active member of the Innovate Within club. Innovate Within is a competition around the state in which students create business proposals that they want to pursue and present the idea to potentially win a grant to get their business up and running. Tania is preparing for her regionals presentation on the 21st of April, where she will present ArchiFuturae. This online and in-person mentorship program will allow students to develop creative skills and prepare for post-second-level schooling. This program could even potentially allow students to earn credits toward their major in college. This program is targeted towards high school scholars who are interested in architecture and design.
Along with Innovate Within, Tania also participates in the Architecture Club and even founded it! She is the President of the club and has planned several events for the students participating in the club along with her. These events include workshops, inviting speakers to talk about architecture and design to interested students, and she’s working on several competitions in progress currently. She keeps in constant contact with different speakers, one of those being CSO Architects in Indianapolis, Indiana. The club began in September and when asked, Tania stated that she founded the club because she wanted to share design opportunities with students. She credits the inspiration for this club to her mentor, who has influenced her on concepts of architecture and what the role of a designer is to the world.
Tania has not fully decided on her major yet, but she told our staff that she has an interest in architecture for sure. She’s currently deciding whether she should major in architecture or just design. Two of her favorite styles of architecture are modern and neo futurism and an architect she looks up to is Zaha Hadeid.
She recommends the architecture club to anyone interested in art, architecture, or even just drawing, painting, or sculpting. They meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school in M136.
