Who created the first Herron mural?
The Herron mural was created by Tom Day when he was 17 years old while he was a student at Herron High School. The project was completed in his senior year and reflected both his artistic interests and his connection to the school community. Today, Tom has returned to work on a new version of the mural, collaborating with his wife, Aaron, to reimagine and update the piece.

Has Tom done other murals besides this?
Yes, Tom has been involved in mural work beyond this project. While mural painting was not always his primary focus, he now works alongside his wife, who is a full-time muralist. They both work at Aaron Ashcraft. Together, they collaborate on mural projects as part of her business, allowing him to continue developing his skills and contributing to large-scale artistic works in a professional capacity
What gave him the motivation to redo it?
The decision to redo the mural was driven by both necessity and opportunity. Over time, the original mural had begun to chip and show signs of age, making it less reflective of the school’s current identity. Tom was invited by Robin Knop to return and update the piece, giving him the chance to improve upon his earlier work. With years of additional experience and a formal education in art, he felt better equipped to create a more refined and meaningful mural. This opportunity allowed him to revisit his original vision and bring a new level of skill and perspective to the project.
