The AI industry is splitting Indiana. Indiana is planning on building AI data centers, across Indianapolis. They are planning to invest 2 billion dollars into building and running it for just one main AI data center. The name of the AI data center is called The Thunderbird Commence Center. It will offer “infrastructure support for the increasing digital demand that is rising throughout the Midwest”. However some people that live in Indiana do not agree with the idea of building a very big AI data center, which has led to a lot of conflict in community.

The Difference between AI data centers and data centers

Traditional data centers store servers, storage drives and network equipment that hold the data people need to use the internet. The data that you choose/want is then set up through your network. However there is still a big work load from a lot of people to just keep it running,therefore it will take some money but not a lot. However they can also be built around any architecture and it is pretty stable with only minor inconveniences. Data centers also only require a stable network to work, and have lower hardware costs, such as using cheaper computing components.

AI data centers are built specifically for AI and machine learning applications, the facilities are built for processing large volumes of data, and doing stuff like AI-driven tasks, for example natural language processing and image recognition. AI facilities make a lot more heat due to the high processing power. As a result, AI data centers need advanced cooling solutions, such as liquid cooling to maintain efficiency and prevent overheating. AI data centers need high speed networking to work functionally. AI data centers are very expensive and require a lot of resources which is a very negative factor for the community around them.

The AI data center in Indianapolis is a bad idea

The AI data center that Indiana is building is a bad idea. AI data centers have so many problems that can’t just be fixed in a moment. There are so many things that could go wrong and there are so many cons of building it, for the Indianapolis residents. One example of it being a bad idea is the cost. The cost will be a lot which will slow things down for Indiana, money wise and construction wise, and not to mention the environment. AI data centers cause so much destruction for the environment. They use massive amounts of water, a lot of unfriendly materials, and so much energy that it is really hard to think about how much they use. Therefore it hurts the environment and its area, which than hurts us in so many different ways. Just because a couple rich people want to make their lives easier and our environment life’s harder, which means we have to stand up against it and get our voices heard on saving the environment and us.
