The Academic Innovators of Herron High School

Herron High School is home to many Academic Innovators who have their own ways on staying on task, this year class of 2029 begun to navigate the way through high school. With the upcoming exam season, it’s important to stay on task during school. A academic innovator is a student who is a creative problem solver that is able to find new solutions to problems. Freshmen this year have both grown and naviated their way during their first year as a highschooler; building new habits and skills they can take into next year.

Study Habits

The study habits of students can reflect on test grades and overall performance in school, different students find different ways to balance these challenges and maintain life outside of school. I asked the Student Priscilla Gomez; who explained to me her study habits and the way she tackles schoolwork. “I try to spend at certain amount of time on studying, and leave for a set amount of time, and come back to finish and make sure im able to remember whatever the topic is, this helps me memorise topics and continue to have time for myself.” These study habits show the balance of schoolwork and non-school work and how students handle school work.

Navigating Freshman Year

Starting High School can be stressful and can cause the need for new tactics to handle school; I talked to Ramses Wynter about adjusting to high school. He explained the initial challenges of starting high school and how he managed to adjusted to them. “It did take awhile to adjust to the amount of work, but I was able to find new ways to study such as watching videos, and writing things down in order to memorise certain topics”. Another example of this is a interview I did with the student is with Vella Jimenez where she explained to me her process of dealing with the school year; ” I study very often, but if don’t understand I topic I like to turn towards to my friends for advice, we for the most part deal with the same work so it’s easy to find people to help”.

Taking These Skills into Next Year

I then interviews the students Heisil Zacarias and Brooklyn pease about how they plan on taking these skills into Sophomore year. Brooklyn explained to me that staying productive is important and how being more on top of study habits would be important for next year. “I want to try to stay more on track of things like homework and planning things out” Brooklyn explained. Hesil explained to me how being on task with her work taught her the importance of staying on task ‘Since I was able to stay on task throughout the year and complete my work, I think that’s something i’d take into my Sophomore year.
