More Than Just Fans: Why Your Team Needs You

What Does It Mean to Support Your Team?

“Never helps to be a Debby Downer,” Kali says. It affects everyone’s spirit. The players are already in their heads in the game, so why make it worse? Better to help each other and lift their spirits. We are only here to have fun, and no matter what, they will always do great.

How Does It Feel to Support Your Team?

Nana gets a positive kick out of it because not only does it boost her spirit, but others’ too! It helps people grow closer on the team. Like Kali says, there’s no “I” in team.

Do You Think Supporting Your Team Has a Big Impact?

It helps people know they care and are here to support them no matter what. People can’t redo the mistakes they already made, so cheering them on helps them know that it’s okay and to move on and do better next time. Just because you can’t play in a game or are bummed out about something else, that doesn’t mean you can’t cheer and support your teammates. No matter how good you are, you have an impact on the team. Your energy impacts everyone around you, so it’s best to always stay positive.

The Role of Social Media and Coaching

Social media also can have a big impact on supporting sports. Whether it be people supporting others or reaching out for help, it has a lot of impact in our modern-day world. Herron has a Herron Softball Instagram that always posts the Player of the Game, inspiring others to get on the page! You can watch plays and learn many things too.

Coaches also have really big impacts on their players. How they coach can determine how a student plays. If the coach is hard on the player, they are more likely to mess up because they want to be perfect all the time and try too hard. Our coaches on the Herron team support us and cheer us on no matter what, and are always there for us, which is a big factor in our softball team’s mental health—because they know that no matter what, we’ve got their back!

Hi! My name is Myonna, and I’m a freshman at Herron High School. Starting high school has been a big change, but I’m excited to be here and figure it all out along the way. I’m someone who likes to stay busy, whether it’s keeping up with classes, meeting new people, or being involved in activities. I play softball and it’s taught me a lot about teamwork, confidence, and how to stay calm under pressure. And while it’s a big part of my life, it’s not the only thing that defines me. I love being active, spending time with friends, and finding new music or shows to obsess over and trying new foods. I try to be the kind of person who brings positivity to whatever room I walk into, even if it’s just a smile. This year, I’m working on staying organized, building confidence, and figuring out what I enjoy most about high school life. I believe it’s important to try new things and step out of your comfort zone, even when it is scary. Whether I’m on the field or in the classroom, I just want to do my best, learn from my mistakes, and enjoy the ride.
