At Herron High School some sports gravitate towards the spotlight more than others. For example, the throwing team is one of the most underrated yet accomplished groups of athletes on our campus! Despite having only thirteen team members, the throwers have presented a spectacular display of achievements and success. This year, the team has shown a lot of growth—from setting personal records to breaking school records. The throwers have pushed their limits this year and achieved great success. One standout is Kally Vincent, a sophomore, who is now the current record holder for girls’ indoor and outdoor shot!

To get a deeper understanding of the team’s environment, achievements, and progress, I spoke with the team’s coach and captain! Here’s what they had to say:
“What advice would you give to new team members?” I ask the captain Emily Jones, a senior at Herron. Heres her response: “It’s not too hard. You have to put in effort. You have to put in the time. It’s fun. The team’s a great community. and we cheer each other up. It’s better than running so much better, you should join.”

If you’re interested in trying something new or looking for a challenge during high school, consider joining the Herron High School throwing team. The encouraging team environment provides great opportunities for all students! By joining the team you’ll become a part of a talented group of athletes. The team and— Coach Tito—hope to see more people join next season!
“Why should other scholars join the throwing team? What makes this sport so interesting?” Coach Tito responds with: “At the end of the day, you’re really competing against other athletes, which you’re also just trying to get better—working on it yourself and it’s skill and its strength. I think it’s a great thing for young people to look hard at something, and see the things that they can experience along the way, but they’re also building strength that is helpful.” Later he adds on, “It’s a really funny group of people—because a lot of times we end up with athletes that don’t know each other either because they’re from different years, or they just don’t ever hang out with each other. And by the end of the year, they have got really closer!”

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to grow as an athlete, build long-lasting friendships with teammates, and achieve success. Join the Herron High School throwing team and be a part of something extraordinary!
